Work in Progress

I am working on my large wood piece today. Here are some images showing the various steps. I'm not happy yet with her face, but lots more work is still to come.

My next project

While it wasn't raining (or snowing) yesterday, I purchased some birch plywood. I used my trusty scroll saw to cut out a body shape for my next painting. It's the shape of a torso with head, that I will paint one of my girl images on. I was all excited about it yesterday, but today, I do not feel very motivated. Hmmmm, more coffee? When finished she will be approx 3' tall and 2' wide.

"Ok, it's a test"

Ok, test me
Anything adversarial that's thrown our way is a test for us to learn by. We keep asking for "the test" until we get it right". We will know we have gotten it right, when it's just not there anymore.

A hooked house

I finished one of the hooked houses I was making that you saw in my last post. I added some original paintings of little faces in the windows.

A day off and work in progress

I had a wonderful day off today, and while watching CNN and celebrating Martin Luther King day I was able to get some more rug hooking done. This is still in progress and I hope to finish them up soon.
I am looking forward to a very exciting day tomorrow!

A talented artist and rug hooker

Sharon is one of the most amazing and talented artists and rug hookers I know. This is her hand hooked rug, designed by her. She dyes her own dyes, makes her own patterns, hooks her own rugs, and even makes stuffies (dolls) to go with her pattern. (Those are the dolls laying on top of the hooked rug). She is amazing and her work is so fun, and freeing. Her color palette is amazing. This rug measure approx 2' x 3' or so. I love her dolls. And she tells me she is making cool mixed media shrines now, I can't wait to see them.

Sisily And Owl Have A Conversation

Measures 8 x 8 on cold press watercolor paper. I use acrylic, graphite, and pitt pens. I think I might make this painting that I created into a rug hooked pattern. Or, maybe make into a series for other paintings.

Tin Toys

This cabinet usually holds my antique Santa collection. After the holidays I decided to bring out my antique toy collection. They had been in boxes since I moved to this house 7 years ago. This is just part of my collection. My favorites, the trucks, and toy drummers are in other parts of my home. They are dated between the 1930's - 1940's. Click on photo to see them better.

I am getting some labels made for my stuffies and rug hooked dolls. Here are the proofs. I can't wait to get them! They are made by MommieMadeIt.etsy.com
She is very patient and easy to work with. So if you need labels you might check her out.

Where do the lips go?

I always have a difficult time with the placement of lips. So, I thought it would be a good idea to cut some out and give them a try before I painted them on my painting.
Here...

Maybe here....

How about over here...

A little low...

Maybe these....

Just right!

I am happy to be a part of...

...this wonderful first publication from Stampington and Company called "Stuffed". There are some amazing contributors and you should run right out and get one! Well, if you like stuffies that is!

Here are my recycled sweater dolls...

Moleskine "Octopus"

Octopus
Our art group had a great meeting today. It was good to catch up as always to see what everyone is up to. Best wishes to Gwen who couldn't make it due to breaking her wrist when she fell on the ice.
I finished another page in my Moleskine. I am getting closer to the last pages.

Octopus Hats

Small size, aceo's. I haven't made any of these for a while so I thought I'd make a couple for my shop. Funny thing is,,,, I couldn't quit making these Octopus Hats! More to come later! :) I think I will make the next hats a lot larger so they take up more of their face.

Anna's Bunny Slippers

Anna just loves her bunny slippers that she received for her birthday from her favorite sister. They keep her feet warm and snuggly. She carries her bunny friend in her pocket for good luck. You might just say "Anna loves bunnies"! ,,,, and balloons!

I'm back!

Yea! Internet works, phone works, and most of the snow is gone!! (We got hit pretty hard in Lake Forest Park). I bought some cool Yaktracks so I can walk around on the ice and snow. They are little wire thingys that go over your shoes that allow you to walk on the ice without slipping! Yea!
I've been busy cleaning my studio, I worked on it for four hours today! It feels good to get rid of all the clutter and now I am hoping my art buddy Celeste and I can sell our art stuff at the artist garage sale in March. (I hope I get invited to sell there). Whew,,,,, now for a glass of wine....

Happy new year!!!!
