Paper Doll

I mentioned in my previous post that I was interested in making something with fabric. This is what I came up with, paper dolls! I'll be making more soon. She is made on 140lb watercolor paper and measure 9 x 4 inches. (she is in my shop).

Watercolor

Here is another page from my watercolor journal. I spread the watercolor all around and intuitively find the shapes inside. After this process, I add the text.

I have been thinking a lot about fabric lately. Like a fabric collage of sorts with journaling on it. hmmm....

A few weekends ago my BF took me to see Rosanne Cash at the Moore Theater In Seattle.
It was hosted by NPR and it was great fun! I took these shots that I wanted to share with you. The restroom sign cracks me up.

New visual journals coming out soon!

Strathmore will be coming out with these new journals very soon. The thing I like the most is that they have either heavy watercolor paper, bristol, or drawing paper in them. The watercolor paper is 140lb, nice and heavy. These will hit the stores in July. I created this piece (in the 9 x 12 journal) for a promotion I am collaborating with Strathmore. I am ready for my next step, the fun part, the journaling! I just love all three sizes, the small one could fit in your pocket, the 5 x 7 could go with you anywhere, and the 9 x 12 for larger journaling efforts!

Cocoon, Illustration Friday

Here is my creation for illustration Friday's theme "Cocoon". I think we sometimes live in our own cocoons and can be in a rut. It's all about taking risks and getting out of our comfort zone. If you don't take a chance you will never know. We learn from our mistakes, and if we didn't make mistakes we cannot grow. So, get out of your cocoon, take chances,,,, and don't be afraid to stomp in  mud puddles!

Another personal journal

I thought you might like to see yet another one of my journals. I have worked these pages over many times to get them to where I like them. I created this journal from scratch using artist canvas boards for the cover, binding, and simple stitching. These pages are painted and collaged with lots of texture added. I sometimes use bubble wrap with acrylics for texture. Witten text is added near the very end of my process.

I still have more to work on, within these pages.

My small artist journal

I thought I would share a page from my small journal. The photo above is the original photo of my journal. When I don't feel especially creative, I draw doodles. I like to play around with images and test the waters for new faces.(click on images to make them larger)

This photo has been enhanced with photoshop elements. I still have a lot to learn with photoshop but I love how this came out!

Journal pages

I created these pages in my small art journal. They are actually quite small, maybe 2 x 3 inches or so. I love the use of watercolor, pitt pens, and graphite. I used a dotted rubber stamp for texture on these. The white color is gouche. I haven't used gouche in my work before but I really like it. I like the way it spreads and how I can blend other colors with it.
