Hat

"Hat"
This is created on 9 x 12 inch gallery wrapped canvas. I used molding paste for added texture, acrylics, Pitt Pens, and graphite. I journaled on this piece, it was what I was thinking about today as I created this piece. "We are all part of each other. We can find good in everyone. Each person brings a lesson to us that we need to know. We are all angels".

Homemade Brigade Artshow

The art show was a lot of fun. I met some interesting people and had a great time on one of the first sunny weekends here in Seattle. I shared a table spot with Celeste who is also a very talented artist. Most of the booths were inside but we were lucky enough to score a table outside.

Flower

I wanted to create a painting with a full face on the canvas. I think I accomplished that! Most of my faces have black lips for some reason.... I decided to give her red lips this time.

Birdcage

Measures 8 x 10 on gallery wrapped canvas. While I like the size of this one my next goal is to make one on 8 x 16 inch canvas, I think I'll like a taller version of her a little better. Stay tuned....

Process

I thought I'd show a few steps of my work. I start with muslin fabric squares for texture in my background. They are prepared with medium gel then painted over with acrylic.

I make a general loose outline of my drawing...then start filling in the middle.

I usually go over my image with graphite and sometimes a black Pitt pen.

The details are painted in, and many layers of acrylic are added to the forms of the bodies and faces. I especially like painting the little mouths on these faces!

Finished!

Valentines

I was able to finish my Valentines this weekend. I suggested to my art group that I might make some to hand out at our next meeting. They were not at all what I had in mind when I made this suggestion, but I am happy with the way they turned out. I used acrylic, graphite, gold embossing papers, vintage photographs, rubber stamped text,,,,and they are all machine stitched. I left the little strings on the bottom because I like the textural feel of them. (click on the photo to see large version)

Bunny Slippers

I have a thing for bunny slippers. I think it must be from sweet memories from my childhood. This photo is not a picture of me but it sure could be. The time, the bike, the slippers, oh so cute!

These cute slippers are from Create a Bear and they are so cute, I had to order a pair!

Journal page

I'm at home today with a sick boy with the flu. He is feeling better now, and I'm starting to feel like I am getting it too.
I am still on a creative low but I have been working in my journals. There is a freedom in creating pieces in my journal because I think they are just for me. But then I somehow end up sharing them with all of you anyway. I like how this one turned out. It was originally for illustration Friday but I changed my mind about posting it for this week's theme.

Eggheadz project

I participated in an egg swap/project last year. We recently received our swaps back. We made two and received two back. There were so many talented artists involved. I was delighted to receive eggs from Jac and Lisa.

Here are the eggs I received, I was delighted!
