Journal, Lobby, Dobby, and Lou

This is the cover of my latest journal. The painting is fondly called Lobby, Dobby and Lou. If you can see the little characters on the right hand side,,,,they are images from "Stuffed Magazine". I created those little guys out of old sweaters. My article on Lobby Dobby and Lou was in the second issue of "Stuffed". This journal is all 140lb watercolor paper with lots of fun inserts in side.

New work now available

I finally finished my "Best friends forever" series. They are 8 x 10 and are on gallery wrapped canvas. I tend to create in themes. A lot of my characters wear bunny slippers. A fond memory of my childhood. In this series, I have been thinking a lot about hairstyles and girls who wear bangs. Have you noticed, most women are NOT wearing bangs now....hmmmm..... I love bangs! With that said,,,I just started to grow mine out.

Some more journal pages

These paintings are created in a small Moleskine journal that I have. It measures approx 3 x 5. It will be the second one of this size that I have worked in. I am inspired by painting small right now. I'll be creating some more of my work on canvas in the very near future.

Making art in Moleskine journals

I am revisiting old journals and getting inspiration from my previous work. I've decided to start another moleskine journal and will post soon. The first step is to get the cover ready. I never start a piece of art on the first page. I start somewhere in the middle. I find that my work continues to grow and I hardly ever like the work I started on the first page. I'll post soon.
Have a great day!

Fall colors and new journal pages

I am experimenting in my journal these days. I'm not quite sure what the outcome is, but I am influenced by the magazine "Raw Vision" I finally got a subscription to it, as it is hard to find in the stores. I love it,,,but it's pricey, but well worth it if you like outsider art. This is my latest spread.

The fall is amazing here in Oregon. I am really enjoying it at my new home. I get more sunshine here than at my other house. I wish the colors could stay longer. Even the clouds are amazing here. My fireplace was cleaned today and I am ready for some wine and rainy days ahead.

Butterflies

When I was a small child I could beckon butterflies to come close and sit on my finger. I'm not sure they will come to me now, but they get really close. I love butterflies!

I'm back! I just listed and opened my shop again. I was inspired by a conversation my friend and I had about capturing butterflies when were children. 8 x 10 gallery wrapped canvas, acrylic

Re-occuring theme

I'll be posting some new work in my shop tomorrow or Friday. I was noticing a re-occuring theme in my work. Birds on my shoulder...hmmmm, I wonder what this means! Maybe they are spirit birds giving a message.....shhhh... you have to listen closely.

Some new pages and life

I'm getting settled here in my new home. I'm finally getting it to where it feels like my home, and not the previous owner. I still need to do my blessings with sage. My friend conducted that ceramony several years ago when I bought my previous home. It cleanses your home, and it just feels "right".
I created this page today after getting some "Raw Vision" magazines in the mail. I feel inspired in a new way.

Too big

I am having a tree removed today that is too big and much to close to my house. I hate to see it go,,, but it creates havoc on my roof and sewer line. I have many more trees in my backyard, so I will still get plenty of shade. I think my neighbors are glad to see it go too.

New studio

I am slowly getting set up in my studio. I can't wait to get it all messy. The shelves were put up earlier in the week. That way I can have more room and start teaching in my home studio. Lovely.

Broken wing 2

The theme around my art right now is about my broken wing. (Rotator cuff). It has been a very slow healing process. I finally got to see a great acupuncturist today so I am hoping the healing will go faster. So for now,,, I am painting,,,but with caution, it still hurts to paint.

Broken wing

I tend to work with themes at any given time in my life. Most often my theme centers around bunny slippers. I know,,, something very sweet from my childhood. At this present moment my theme is centered around my recent event of damaging my rotator cuff. My wing. It hurts to paint,,,but I will get through this.

Broken Wing

I call this spread "Broken Wing". It's about the big move in my life. Quitting my job (to create art full time), buying a new home and moving to another state. In the process of all this positive change,, I broke my wing.
Actually I injured my rotator cuff in the move. I like to think of it as my "wings". I'll be flying again soon, thou.

New home, new state, new studio

I recently moved to another state,,,to Salem Oregon. I can't begin to tell you what an overwhelming journey this has been for me. I sold my home in Washington state, and I am now happy to say,,,I'm in a new city that seems to fit me. I injured my arm during the move, so getting things done has been a slow process. I will be able to teach in my new home studio. The start  of the cubby shelves went up today. There will be another section added this weekend. I've always wanted cubby shelves in my studio! This frees up more space so I can teach here.  The photos above are just of one wall, where the shelves are being custom built to fit the space.  I am so very excited about my new adventure!

Thank you to all of you who have followed me on my blog and have stayed with me during this time of transition.

Namaste

I love blogging,,,,I really do...

I know you've noticed I haven't been a very good blogger lately. I've had huge life changes,,, and have been a little preoccupied with them. Part of my big change will be selling and buying my new home. To make the changes I want to do in my life, I wanted to get a fresh start, a new home, and a new life. All changes are very good I promise. I won't go into details now,,, but I highly recommend the book "Free Range Humans". That will give you a big hint of what's going on in my life. So, I miss my blog but promise to get back in the swing of things by the fall. Stay tuned....til then...I plan on still posting my latest and archival creations. Thanks for staying with me..... Happy summer! xo

Willow

This is my rescue dog Willow. I have had her now for almost a year. She is the sweetest dog on the planet now that she has her confidence. I painted her likeness today, I wonder if she approves. I always wanted to be a courtroom character painter, do you think I could get a job doing that! haha!

From my archives

I don't seem to have very much time to post lately, big changes are ahead for me. So be patient, I'll be going full speed in a couple of months.

Painting the blank page, and a guy in my journal

This is another page I created recently. I used collage papers in the hand bound journal that I made. I start all my pages by creating a watercolor wash on the pages so I am not faced with the overwhelming "blank page". Sometimes I am happy enough with all the pages painted in brilliant, vibrant colors, and I don't need to paint anything else on them! I find plain white pages a little intimidating to start work on.

Magic at Fort Warden

I really love this place. It's at Fort Warden in the State of Washington. I visited recently when the sun was barely out and got some great photos with my little Canon Sure Shot camera. The last photo is right next to the Battery and is called the memory vault. It was such a treat to be able to see this magical site.

Some new pages, a peek inside

I created these pages recently on an art retreat I attended in Port Townsend. This journal is all hand made. I bound the covers, added watercolor paper, and painted all the pages before I started to work on my art. This journal is a old/new friend.
