Rug Hooking

I finished a little rug hooked face. It is small, about 5 x 5 inches. I will be making it into a little pillow that could be used for a pincushion ,,,, or just left as a little pillow.

Olivia

Olivia
This is Olivia. She frequents tag sales, and looks for scarfs to warm her neck for the winter months. 8 x 10, acrylic, canvas, molding paste.

Trudy

Trudy
Whenever I have been away from painting for a little while, I find my work changes at first. Sometimes dramatically and sometimes more subtle. I made this painting last night, craving and starving to try something new.
This is "Trudy", and she is a little whack! She loves to wear new hats! She especially loves the color red.
I may put her in my etsy shop soon.

New pottery pieces

Yay for new pottery!!! As I mentioned in my previous post it's been a VERY long time since I have thrown on a wheel. My class session is only 8 classes and we are near the end now. That means I only have next week to throw my last pieces since they have to go into the bisque fire then glazed, then on to the high fire. It is about a three week turn around from start of a piece to finish. I have about 8 pieces in the bisque fire now and I hope to get them all glazed on Thursday when my class meets. This has been waaaay to short of a time, I'm just getting the hang of things and now class is winding down. I'm thinking of taking my next class at a community college where the sessions are longer.

Low fire and high fire

The buttons above are low fired. They are fired to a cone 4 at 1900 degrees. With low fire you can get all the colors of the rainbow, however they are not as durable as the high fire buttons.

The buttons below are high fired to a cone 10 at 2300 degrees. I like the durability of these but you cannot get the bright colors that low fire glazes have to offer. So my personal choice is the the high fire ones. I know they won't break if they are dropped on concrete. :)

Being offered in my etsy shop now.

Rug Hooking Show

I took the day off and went to the rug hooking show. It was fabulous! There were rugs, wall hangings, primitive art, great food, nice people, vendors with wool to sell and supplies, and lots of free donated wool. There was even a raffle and free lunch and desserts! Here is just a small sample of some of the rugs. I wish I could have taken photos of more.

These were really cute, small faces about 4" x 4".

...and beautiful wool...

handmade primitive art...

...and great desserts....

If you ever get a chance to go to a rug hooking show, go,,, you will see amazing art, and things you have never seen before.

Enjoy the moment

Enjoy the moment
Enjoy the moment, it's all we have.....
That's my thought for today. I'm off to a rug hookers show today. I hope to have lots of photos to show you after I return.
I just need to remember my camera!
Happy Wednesday!

A new painting and a shout out

I used a different color palette for this painting. I'm not so sure I like it, but it has the feeling of fall colors. Most of my paintings are made with bright, fun colors. I used umbers and rust type colors for this painting. I love using molding paste for background texture. You might ask, why the numbers 534?,,, well, I'm not sure, they just came to me at the time. It measures 8 x 10 inches and is created on gallery canvas.

Thanks to Amy over at Parent Sphere for a shout out for my Sammy doll! He really needs a new home!

A doodle and a sketch

I have been spending lots of time in the pottery studio with no results to show as of yet. It's a long process and I am still learning about the glazes and what they can do. I made some buttons too, and I am hoping I will have some to show by the end of the week. In the meantime, I made some simple sketches tonite. I will use these as a guide to the next series of paintings I will make soon.

Where I've been

Have you noticed my lack of posting lately? Well, I have been busy,,,,, I have been taking a ceramics class. I have been away from ceramics for over 25+ years, oh my!!!! I have always loved it and have always wanted to get back to it. Now that my son is older, there is more time for me! Pursuing things I love. I love throwing,,,,,(on the wheel) you can make several items in a matter of minutes, (if you are good),,, quick results,,, that's me!!!!! I was hoping to show you my first piece, but like any good thing I need to be more patient,,,,, the glaze didn't come out just right so I am having it re-fired. It's just a test piece so I can learn about what all the glazes do. I am creating with Laguna B, which is a white clay. I hope to make some pieces with porcelain when I upgrade my skills a bit.

It's kinda like riding a bike, it all comes back. ;)
I have some studio time this weekend. Unfortunately I won't have much to show,,,,, yet..... stay tuned......

Van Gogh

I found this super cool toy on the internet!
I think I need one!

Vincent van Gogh is truly the epitome of posthumous fame and notoriety. He experienced very little success in his life, yet today countless posters of his paintings hang in homes throughout the world. This 5-1/4" (13.3 cm) tall, hard vinyl figure has two interchangeable heads and comes with a paintbrush, a palette, an easel, a frame and some mini masterpieces to display.
