"Fortune" Illustration Friday

When I was a little girl my birthday was hardly ever celebrated. It is January 4th. My parents always told me it was too close to Christmas. When I received a present they would say "this is for Christmas and your birthday". Now that I am older I celebrate my birthday with gusto, never to be thrown into Christmas or other holiday celebrations. My good fortune is to always celebrate and acknowledge not only my birthday but the birthdays of family, friends and loved ones.

The Random Project

About the project

The Random project has gathered an international collective of designers and artists to produce typography-led work created in response to random words. Whilst many participants are currently based in London, others live as far afield as Brazil and India, giving an international perspective to the collective's work.

Each participant picked a number between 1 and 100 which corresponded to an unseen word cut out of an issue of Time Out magazine. This randomly selected word then became the basis for their project.

Why Time Out? Because it’s a magazine that reflects London – from the everyday reality of living and travelling in the city to the eclectic and cultural flotsam it offers. This emanates through every level of the publication; if individual words are taken out of context they still combine to form a lexicon that is peculiarly 'London'.

Joural Page

Journal Page

I'm not sure if I like the way this one came out, but it is colorful. I really like these flowers that came into my mind one day. I usually don't draw flowers, but they are showing up everywhere in my journal.

Journal Page

I am excited to discover these Gelly Glaze pens. Not only are they dimensional,,, but when you draw with them, then spread out the ink with your finger,,,,it almost appears like paint or watercolors. I like them because I can "paint" without the water, brushes, and clean up. Love them! Especially good if you are out in public and want to work in your journal. They leave a slight shine to your drawing,,,,, very cool!

Painting on muslin

I just started this piece. I painted acrylics on muslin. It measures approx 8 x 10 inches. I will make a mini quilt out of it, or perhaps stuff it for a pillow. Fun fabrics will be used no matter what I decide to do.
