We went hunting/searching for the perfect Christmas tree over the weekend. There is a place just about an hour from Seattle in Stanwood, that we love to go to. While I saw lots of brown mushrooms amongst the trees, I stumbled upon this most beautiful mushroom in the field under the trees. There were two of them, and only two, in the whole farm. Do you know what type of mushroom this is?

Those are beautiful mushrooms!! I will see if I can find the name for you! They look like they came right out of a fairy tale!
Were they actually red 'in the flesh'? If so they are Fly Agaric and considered poisonous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria
That mushroom is an amanita. It's very poisonous but beautiful. The beauty is what attracts people to it. It accounts for 90% of mushroom related deaths. When people eat it they end up on dialysis for life, if they are very lucky.
If I remember I'll bring a book on it with me Sunday.
