New wool and a new project

I bought some new wool yesterday from a teacher who teaches rug hooking. She was having a big sale. She mostly uses wool from England. The wool was wonderful and there was a variety to chose from. I always pick the bright colors. It's really hard to tell on your computer screen how wonderful and colorful this wool is. Or, for that matter what it will look like once hooked.

Here is the start to my latest project. I used a fiesta serving plate for the oval shape of this piece. The kitty is my original design. Does it look familiar? I need to go to Joanne's and pick out a pillow form. The oval shape will be inside a square shape, which will be the standard size of a small throw pillow. I'm thinking either 14 x 14, or 16 x 16. I think they make those sizes....

Good news

I am taking ceramics class again at the Kirkland Arts Center. My program starts in April, so it will be about a month, and then I will have new pots to sell. I will be continuing my exploration of bright color under glazes for high fire clay.

From my archives

I really like this little guy. I traded him for art with another artist friend of mine a couple of years ago. I think I'll make another, I miss him. He was one tough cookie!

A new rug hooked doll

This doll took me a long time to complete. Her face took a turn that was unexpected, and I'm not sure if I like her as much as the others ones I have made. I create all my own patterns, and as I am hooking my designs take a life of their own. The next step will be to finish her up by putting on a wool back and stuffing her with polyfill.

Close up detail...

My next hooked project will be a kitty with a party hat,,,, stay tuned....

Edmonds art walk

My friend Kim and I went to the Edmonds art walk Thursday night. We only had time to visit one studio/house that night. We saw artist Sharon Baker's work here. She creates rug hookings, paintings, and mixed media dolls, fabric art, purses, and fabulous cigar box shrines.

I don't recall this artist's name but if you click to enlarge you can see her name. Her work was so fabulous, the camera really didn't capture the beauty.

There was some great food and wine. I'll definitely go again and check out more artists studios.

Moleskine and a Blue Fish

Here is my latest page in my Moleskine. Titled: "OK, I'm listening". I'm almost finished with my Moleskine, a couple of pages more and the end pages to paint.

I'm a Blue Fish fan. I just bought this top a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately it is too small for me so I'm selling it on ebay.

Here's to hoping we are all done with the snow in Seattle!

Thoughts on sticky notes

Sometimes when I am at work, I can't help but think of ideas. The only thing availble to me is pens, sticky notes, and pencils,,,,oh and sharpie markers. So like an addict hiding his addiction, I secretly draw my ideas on sticky notes,,,, I do it fast and quickly so no one will see. Don't tell anyone, I think I'm obsessed!

I think this must be me.

...and another one

I was able to do another page in my Moleskine this weekend. The snow never came, so I was able to run my errands and get lots of work done around the house. Among my accomplishments this weekend, I made split pea soup, it is heavenly! (if I must say so myself). ... more pages soon...

Illustration Friday, Breezy

It was so breezy outside and the trees were blowing in the wind, but they decided to take their walk anyway.
