Matchbox show at the Twilight

I finally broke away to get to see the show where I have a few pieces. The show is at the Twilight Artist Collective in West Seattle. Curated by the fabulous Jenna Colby. The venue was great, the shop had fun and functional art for sale, and the exhibit was great! There were a lot of cool artists that submitted their work. You may recognize Tiphoni's work (Teesha's daughter) and some other great artists. I tried to capture their signature labels as much as I could. (Click on images to make them larger).

From my archives

This is one of my favorites I created about a year ago. The bird cages are in the birds instead of the birds being inside the cages,,, I know,,, my twisted way of thinking about art! Our only cages are the self imposed ones we put upon ourselves. So I say,,, break away, be free.

Sketchbook project

Sketchbook project
I finished the project, yea! I always do the inside first covers last because I am never happy with them if I do them first by the time I finish the end. So, my technique is to do the first couple of pages last, then they seem to flow with the rest of the project. The next photo is the back cover. I used oil pastels and gave the background texture by adding squares of muslin while painting over it.

Painting on paint brushes...

I have been busy painting on some more paint brushes. I made some several months back and decided to make a few more. More to come later.... In my shop

Amazing!

We went hunting/searching for the perfect Christmas tree over the weekend. There is a place just about an hour from Seattle in Stanwood, that we love to go to. While I saw lots of brown mushrooms amongst the trees, I stumbled upon this most beautiful mushroom in the field under the trees. There were two of them, and only two, in the whole farm. Do you know what type of mushroom this is?

Mail Me Art

I finished my submission for "Mail Me Art" project. I decided to paint on a bubble wrap envelope, I like the texture. The idea is to let the receivers know if there is anything in the envelope, thus, the words "empty". I actually like the back better than the front of the envelope. Oh well, sometimes that just happens and you have to go with the flow.

What i'm working on...

Matchbox project
I'm working on a project for a Matchbox group show in December in West Seattle. Organized by the fabulous Jenna Colby. I've had several ideas, and chucked them all and have had to start over. I'm liking the way my work is progressing so far. I'll show more later when I'm near completion.

Happy Saturday!

Escaping artist block part 2

I am still working through my artist block,,, yes we all have it. One way I try to escape it is by working in my personal journal. No rules, no expectations, just going with the flow.

Here is a close up of one of my pages.

Escaping artist block

I am escaping many days of artist block. I can't seem to focus on what I want to create. When that happens I turn to my journals. My journals are filled with paint, acrylic, collage, text, markers, and graphite. After I create the spread I often go back and fill in the rest with my journal thoughts. This process takes days or weeks but I am always happy when I feel it is "finished".

A favorite book and a favorite dog

I love this children's book. The style is wonderful, and I love the collage elements and the text. It is written by John Coy and illustrated by Carolyn Fisher. Very inspirational.

And,,, this is my dog Bailey. She loves helping rake the fall leaves.

New mini art paintings

I created some more aceo cards today, you will find them in my etsy shop. I was thinking I would add to my abc cards, but I went with the flow and made these instead. I love it when my art has a mind of its own, I'm really never sure what will come out of me, until its finished! I am also letting go of a few rug hooked art items. You will find them here.

Collaborative with Syd

Syd and I decided to do a collaborative project together. We both like the same type of art. Our project started with a simple design. Since I don't have a sewing machine that will sew the heavy canvas, Syd created the canvas pouches for us. We then painted on them and sent them back and forth to each other. We painted our images on canvas board and sent those to each other to complete. It was a great project and I cherish my work from Syd.
