New bird visit

Some new birds showed up last week. I think they might be Red Crossbills. See how the males beak crosses in one of the photos. I have only seen these at my feeder once so far. I hope they return. The male is red and the female is yellow. I just love my new bird feeder. It is so fun to watch from my living room window.

Some more new flowers

I created some more flowers, inspired by Carla's class. Watercolors are really fun to work with, easy,,,and you can make them as detailed as you want. I like the whimsy of these. I will be incorporating my own art as I continue to learn technique.

Have a great weekend.....I'll be back soon!

New work

I have been immersed in an online class by Carla Sonheim, "Flower Crazy". I am learning new techniques which I hope to incorporate into my own work. These flowers are very addicting. I love how the watercolors flow. I hope to make more as time allows, but for now,,,I can't wait to try creating some more.

A compulation

People always ask me if I have an idea of what I want to paint before I start. My answer is usually no. I sit down and paint whatever comes to mind. These paintings were a little different in that I did have an idea I wanted to express.
These were done at various times in my journal. I am never quite sure what to say about them. They do have meaning to me, but I can't put it in words. I think the first image was a painting I did when I felt overwhelmed,,, like being under water. But in a whimsical way,,,I never feel that way for too long.
The second image is about having challenges with time,,,,a friend on the east coast, me on the west coast. The three hours difference was always difficult for me and difficult for us to connect.
The last image is about having someone in your life, and well, the timing wasn't right, we were "just too late".

Journal pages, my best friend

This is a small journal I carry around in my purse. I used watercolor, graphite, and collaged an old photo. When I create the text, this will be about my best friend who has helped me through difficult times.

A new journal that I am working in

This is not really an old journal, but it is one that I am reworking. I take my old work in the journal and embellish it with my new style. Some pages I will keep just the way they are. This journal is one that I bought at Daniel Smith several years ago. It is from India and the pages are super thick. I like that. The pages can hold a lot of medium and collage. On my next post I will try to show some "before" and "after" shots of the same work as I re-invent the pages.

My work still carries the strong images of masks. I am not sure what that is all about, but most of my people are wearing masks. I kind of like that. Maybe I am hiding behind a mask too.

(click to make image larger)
I have a small sketchbook that I carry around with me in my purse. It measures about 5 x 3 inches. I use it to paint in when the inspiration hits me. Good for the wait at the doctor's office, the car mechanic, or even breaks at work. I use Peerless watercolors which are strips of paper with watercolor on them, all you do is wet them, and you have instant watercolors. I also carry around a Pitt pen and some graphite. The paper in this book is a little thin, but I don't mind. I could add some collaged papers to make it thicker....hmmmm...

An new class

I created these "street art" type postcards at Artfest in superbly talented Orly Avinery's class. I really love this style and I learned techniques to get out of my comfort zone. The idea is to make the art look like graffiti on a wall or the street. The first post card I made after the class was over incorporating my own style with the techniques learned from class. It was so fun seeing old art friends and making new friends. I will miss this wonderful experience since this will be the last Artfest held.
