My pattern for a new hooked rug

I thought I'd like to make a larger hooked project this time, so I am going to make a rug. Here is my pattern for it. It will be fun,,,, and of course I will be using bright colors.

I then drew my idea on Monks cloth. All ready to start! It will be 19 x 26, that's big for me, since my rug hooked projects are smaller and usually stuffed, like the rug hooked dolls I make.

Maybe I can start hooking this weekend. Til then...

Artist you should know about, Magaly Ohika

Let me introduce you to my new art friend, Magaly Ohika. She makes amazing illustrations. Her work is colorful, soulful, and her words and thoughts inspirational. I so love her work. Each work of art has wonderful meaning, as only Magaly can express so well. When you get a chance please visit her at her blog.

You can visit her shop, The Itsy Bitsy Spill for wonderful art, and lovely stuffed creatures.

Collab with Syd continued

Here is Syd's canvas that I worked on. I tried to incorporate my drawings into her little car, but it just didn't work. So,,, I decided to do my share on the back of the canvas. It reads " It is way more fun to take an art vacation,,,,,,, than to venture out on the high seas!" This canvas fits into the canvas pouch you saw in my previous post.

I thought you might like to see the initial drawing I made for our project.

Next step,,,, I mail off my partially completed canvas for Syd to work on. Stay tuned!

Collab with Syd McCutcheon

Syd and I decided to do a collab project together. We first made a fabric canvas envelope to hold our art canvas in. This is Syd's envelope that I painted for her. Syd painted the background and I painted the illustrations. I also made a stuffed art doll that attaches to the front of the envelope. I will hopefully be able to work on the canvas portion this weekend.

Confidant

Do you have a best friend you can tell anything to? ...I do.

Ingredients:
8 x 8 hot press 140lb Fabriano watercolor paper, graphite, Pitt pens, artist grade acrylics

Finished birdie

I stuffed him with polyfill and sewed him up last night. He has a polka dot ribbon for a hanger. He's pretty cute don't you think? I am making rug hooked items to sell at the rug show in October. This little guy is for sale too.

Rug hooked birdie

I'm starting a new rug hooked birdie. Inspired by Mary Stanley's birdies. I will stuff him and apply a little fabric hanger at the top. He could hang over a door knob, or whatever. And, of course he will be sporting a striped party hat. I bought some more wool today, and I can't wait to get it. It's an orangey/earthy color with a small grid pattern. I also ordered some more monks cloth. I always need to have it on hand when the inspiration hits me. I was hoping to dye my first batch of wool this week, but I haven't found the time to do it yet. Projects are spinning in my head,,,,,,and there is just not enough time to do them all.

Doodle pods

When I need to get new ideas for an illustration I doodle. Sometimes I just need to fine tune a nose, see where eyes should be, a new body position etc. Doodling allows freedom to explore without judgement (on my part). I call these doodles my doodle pods. This is on heavy card stock paper measuring 8.5 x 11.
