Old ledger journal

I often use just what I have around the house to paint in. I got this old ledger journal at a garage sale for .25 cents. I love the lines in the background. I think it adds character. I don't mind that the pages wrinkle from the watercolors, it gives it personality. Plus the pages will probably lay flat when it has been closed for a long time.

Plastic bag recycled journal

I made this journal over the weekend with my lovely art friends. It is made from recycled plastic bags. They are all fused together, about 6 layers, and then cut and shaped into the size of journal you want to make. The pages are from left over scraps of watercolor paper. The pages are bound with a simple single signature (a technique that I learned from Teesha) and waxed linen thread. I really love this technique, but I didn't think I would at first.  I love holding it, the texture, and the bumpiness.  The button was made by me in a ceramics class I took in Kirkland a couple of years ago. This project goes really fast and can be made in a couple of hours, I like that!

The colors are amazing...

...and I am in awe of the colors of nature. Maybe that's why I am an artist! I am so grateful to have eyes to see.... Thank you.

Breath

I need to be where I can can breath, where I can be free of toxicity around me, where I can live, I can love, where I can enjoy life.  I find beauty in the simplest of things...I long to breath...

A peek

Here's a peek into the journal I am doing with my art friend Syd. Plus a few polka dots for fun! We are almost done with this journal, I can't wait to finish it! It has traveled between us to work on in our free time for over a year!

The Present

I created this on a 10 x 8 canvas. I used acrylic, and graphite and small bits of collage from an old masonry catalog. I love how to make a collage piece with editing software called Picnik. The canvas I use is Resin paper. I love the feel of it with several coats of gesso on it. It almost feels like a soft leather. Try it if you haven't used it before. It can be found at any hardware store.

With Polka Dot Bows

In honor of my birthday I decided to make something a little different. She is on a wood panel, measuring about 11 x 14. Done with acrylic, and graphite. I made this painting for a friend, I hope he likes it. I think she has sort of a folksy feel to her. I haven't painted with acrylics for a while now, I feel torn between painting in watercolor and painting with acrylic. What I create with these different mediums seems to change as well. My watercolor paintings are more whimsical, while the acrylic lends to a more serious painting......hmmm, I need to explore this a little more....
