Going shopping
Well, I'm off to the stores today. I'm trying to find the "Fragile" tape made by Scotch. I'm not sure where to find it except for online. The tape is about 3.50 but shipping would be 7.00 so I'm hoping to find it in the stores. I've already tried Staples, Office Max, and Target. Then I'm going to stop by REI and see if they have any cool shoes I need. (Maybe bunny slippers) Well, I'm off!

This makes me very happy!
When I lived in California ages ago, I bought this exact mobile from somewhere in San Francisco. I can't remember where I got it. It hung lovingly for over 14 years either above my bed in my bedroom or above my son's bed when he was little. It finally got so old and dusty that I threw it away. I have been looking for one just like it and I found it! I'm sure this is the same maker. The quality is superb! I'm going to buy one as soon as I can. Here is the link

Favorite ornaments and favorite child
Or, hmmm,,, I should say "only" child.
Remember these spinners from the 50's? You put them over lights and the little metal spinny things spin in the middle. I have a bunch of them, they are my favorite ornaments.
Some of them have little melted plastic spots because the lights were bigger in the 50's and some of the ornaments got too hot. I have seen them recently reproduced from the vintage style of the 50's.
Back to my favorite son. This is before the band concert. How nice is that?

We may not be quite like what we seem
As I was making art today I didn't know this would evolve from me,,,, but I think it would make a good poster. It's about appearances, outside and inside. I made this piece after watching Oprah's show on domestic violence. Somehow this piece ended up as a page for Katie's journal. Art is like that for me,,,, I often don't know what I am going to create, I let the piece speak for me. This piece needed to be heard.

The Little Things Illustration Friday
Do you remember the little things in life when you were a small child? Like opening a brand new box of 64 count crayons. Yummmmmm, the smell. And like wearing your favorite costume for days on end, and even to bed? I wouldn't take mine off, unless my mom made me when it was time for a bath!

Chihuly
I visited the Tacoma Glass Museum a couple of weekends ago. The museum itself was closed but the walkway bridge to the museum is always open. I feel if you see this you don't even need to go to the museum. These photos are taken looking up into the ceiling of the bridge. Isn't it amazing! I could stand there and look up forever.

Bunny Slippers and New Purse
This is my latest painting. I am happy with the brightness of it and the background texture. I love Golden's molding paste because it drys quickly. I have been using it on a lot of my pieces lately. I'm also into a thing with bunny slippers. I never grew out of my desire to have waaaay cute slippers! They should make children's slippers in womens sizes.

Four houses
I was so busy today. I did have time to create this. I like how it came out, and I am always reminded of how wonderful cheesecloth is. Can you guess the size? In the 1980's I had a greeting card company and I made cards with cheesecloth for texture. They were abstract and the texture was the main focus.

My Pet Turtle
I am on strike, well as far as household chores go. No errands, no taking care of things, just a day of making art.
I wanted to make something a little different today, so here's what I painted. I also made some aceo's that look similiar. I like that it is a little different but still has the feel of my other work. It is available in my shop.

Hat, Illustration Friday
This is my entry for IF. I had a hard time with this one, and I'm not sure why. I make hats all the time, on my curious creatures. Well, maybe its just timing, I'm in a more serious mood today. This is an artist trading card size.
It is for sale here

Artist you should know about
These journals are made by the talented artist Celeste Douville. I had the pleasure of meeting her at our artist meet up at Third Place Books. She creates amazing journals. She uses lots of layers, paint, and texture. I like the freeness of her work. She also makes PMC jewelry. You can see more of her work in her shop.

Starting a new art journal
I am starting another new journal. After the "1,000 Artists Journals project" entries I sent off my journal and I am missing it, so I decided to start another one. It seems I never finish them totally anyway. Here is just the front. I will try to take some pics with my camera when the lighting is better. This is from my scanner. I got the journal from Daniel Smith. I'm not sure if they have these anymore but I really like the rough torn archival watercolor pages in them. I'll be taking more photos of my journal this weekend.
I used a new poster paint type white pen for my identification in her hair! It is a "Pen-touch" quick dry opaque white ink, permanent marker. I love it!!!

"Papaya and Lemon"
I have been experimenting with different backgrounds. I love the muslin and the texture it gives. On this piece I have used joint compound. I usually prep 5 pieces at one time, then they are ready when I feel like painting. This piece measures 8 x 8 x 1.5 inches. The colors are much better in person. I use artist grade acrylics and an archival finishing spray.
